Rendleman Orchards Apple Varieties for 2010
 

There are enough different apple varieties to fill the telephone book of a small town - about 7,500. At Rendleman Orchards, we grow and recommend eight versatile varieties that can, individually or combined, fulfill the requirements of any recipe or be eaten out of hand. All store well, to be enjoyed for months. 
 
Gala Apples - August 21 - September

Gala    August 21 - September
A wonderful early season apple with outstanding qualities. Its firm, crisp texture yields a sweet, juicy flavor that is good by the slice or in a pie. We begin picking Galas the third week of August and continue into September.
Golden Supreme Apples - August 21 - September Golden Supreme    August 21 - September
An early season apple with Golden Delicious traits. The Golden Supreme apple is a sweet, smooth textured flavor, great for eating and cooking.
Honeycrisp Apples - August 28 - September Honeycrisp   August 28 - September
This especially crisp, large, oragne-red apple has a rich, sweet flavor with a blast of juice. In our taste tests, it's a real crowd pleaser.
Jonathon Apples - August 31-December Jonathon   August 31 - December
An apple with a sweet-tart intense flavor which is great for eating or cooking. A top pick for pies and tarts and is also appropriate for sauces and applebutter. The skin is deep, clear red with crisp, yellowish flesh and a spicy fragrance. Harvesting starts the fourth week in August and continues through the third week of September.
Red Delicious Apples - September 7-December Red Delicious   September 7 - December
Sweet flavor, creamy white flesh, pleasant perfume and crimson red skin make this a standout for snacks or fruit salads. Sometimes tart when first picked, the flavor quickly develops and matures over time. Picking of the Red Delicious variety begins the second week of September and continues for two weeks.
Jonagold Apples - September - mid October Jonagold   September 7 - mid October
A Golden Delicious & Jonathon cross that produces a large apple with an orange tinted red blush over a yellow background. The Jonagold has a juciy crisp texture with a sweet, yet sightly tart flavor. Great for fresh eating and pies. Jonagold harvest begins the second week of September through mid October.
Golden Delicious Apples - September 7-December Golden Delicious   September 7 - December
An excellent all-purpose apple with creamy white flesh and greenish-yellow skin, turning to golden, when fully mature. Golden Delicious are ideal for eating out of hand, as well as being a favorite for pies, coblers and tarts. Its versatility makes it our best seller. Harvesting of Golden Delicious begins the second week of September and continues until the first week of October.
Ambrosia Apples - September 10 - September Ambrosia   September 10 - September
Only discovered in 1980, this unique, medium-large, very juicy variety has a sweet low-acid flavor and is great for eating out of hand.It shows a pinkish-red blush over creamy yellow background.
Suncrisp Apples - October 10 - November Suncrisp   October 10 - November
A mid-season yellow apple that matures with an orange blush. Suncrisp has a distinctive tartness with a mild sweetness which makes it a favorite amoung Granny Smith lovers. The flesh remains firm & crisp, even in storage. Suncrisp harvest begins the second week of October
Fuji Apples - October 7 - November Fuji   October 7 - November
A late season, but popular variety introduced to the U.S. from Japan in the 1980's. This immensly flavorful, mildly sweet apple has a crunch when you bite into it, as well as maintains its firmness during storage. Fujis are harvested beginning the first week of October and continues into November.
Braeburn Apples - October 21 - November Kumeu Crimson Braeburn   October 21 - November
Introduced from New Zealand, this very late season, juicy, sweet-tart, highly colored, full red apple has a very long storage life - rivaling that well-known characteristic of the Fuji
